Watch our welcoming address!

Tomás Hanna serves as the Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools in the School District of Philadelphia.

Mr. Hanna served as the inaugural Chief Talent Officer at the Pennsylvania Department of Education, where he led the implementation of PA’s Educator Workforce Strategy. The strategy encompasses five focus areas addressing key shortage areas across all school staff and personnel, not only teachers; a representative workforce that mirrors PA’s student population; streamlined and customer-service oriented certification processes; high-quality preparation experiences for aspiring educators; and access to high-quality and relevant professional growth and leadership development opportunities.

He has more than 30 years of experience in public education in New York, Philadelphia, Providence, RI and Coatesville, PA in key leadership roles – superintendent of schools, principal, central office administrator, and as a member of the senior cabinet.

Outcomes achieved under Hanna’s leadership include the creation of systems and structures to drive improved academic outcomes, improved hiring processes, enhanced supports to new teachers, quality customer service to prospective employees, and groundbreaking labor agreements. Two case studies were written by the Harvard Business School and Graduate School of Education for the Public Education Leadership Project (PELP) documenting his work in human capital management and its sustainability over time.

Tomás is a native Philadelphian and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from the University of Puerto Rico, a Master of Arts in Bilingual/Bicultural Studies from LaSalle University and holds a Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility.
